Avalon and Stone Harbor’s 532 beach-block parcels, assessed at $1,520,886,600, were still awaiting nearly 1 million cubic yards of replenishment sand as a September storm slammed the coast.

The dredger Delaware stopped work Sunday after placing 539,951 cubic yards on Avalon’s northern beaches. Rough seas sent it to safe harbor in Great Egg Harbor.

The $15.8 million federal contract calls for about 1.48 million cubic yards across both towns. About 401,000 cubic yards remain to be placed in Avalon. Stone Harbor awaits all 539,000 cubic yards planned for its beaches.
